South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol has been arrested on suspicion of masterminding a civil war over the declaration of emergency martial law. We will report live from in front of the High Ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency, where the interrogation is taking place. Supporters have gathered in front of the building where Yoon was transferred, holding large flags and protesting his arrest. The Joint Investigation Headquarters began executing an arrest warrant for Yoon early this morning on suspicion of masterminding a civil war over last year's declaration of emergency martial law. The warrant was then executed at 10:33 a.m., and Yoon was arrested. This is the first time in history that a sitting president has been arrested in South Korea. Yoon was immediately transferred to the police, and interrogation began around 11 a.m., but South Korean media reported that "Yoon is refusing to make a statement." In a message to the nation today, Yoon criticized the investigation team, saying, "The procedure is proceeding with an invalid warrant." The Joint Investigation Headquarters must decide whether to request a formal arrest warrant from the court by around 10:30 a.m. the day after tomorrow, 48 hours after the warrant was executed, and attention is focused on how the investigation will proceed. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi: "The Japanese government is closely watching the series of developments in South Korea with particular and serious interest." Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi spoke about President Yoon's detention at a morning press conference, pointing out that "South Korea is an important neighboring country for Japan, with which we will cooperate as partners on various issues in the international community." He then emphasized his intention to continue to communicate closely with the South Korean government, saying, "The importance of Japan-South Korea relations remains unchanged." ▼TBS NEWS DIG Official Website https://newsdig.tbs.co.jp/ ▼Please subscribe to our channel! / @tbsnewsdig ▼Information provided by "TBS Insiders" https://www.tbs.co.jp/news_sp/tbs-ins... ▼Video provided by "TBS Scoop Post" https://www.tbs.co.jp/news_sp/toukou.... #News #news #TBS #newsdig
