South Korea has the lowest birth rate in the world - and the number of children per woman continues to fall. According to the most recent statistics, this rate is now 0.72, well below the minimum replacement rate of a population, which is 2.1 children per woman. If the trend continues, it is estimated that South Korea's population will fall by half by the year 2100. But what explains this trend?
