Father Raniero Cantalamessa is the well-known Capuchin friar who for years has given The Reasons for Hope commenting on the Gospel from television screens. He is the Pope's preacher, we know, but he is also a theologian, a university professor, above all a preacher "who does not preach", but a simple announcer of the Gospel. For some time, at over 80 years of age, he has retired to a hermitage "because before speaking you must listen" and although he has written more than 300 books he has not tired of listening to the Word of God. From the Marche region, born in Colli del Tronto, Father Raniero has never doubted his vocation. He still remembers the day he understood that "Jesus was the answer to everything". He was 12 years old, a boy who had experienced the Second World War up close, and on his first day of seminary he perceived that God had chosen him.
