September 7, 2023 As usual, wake up at 5am, coffee, sunrise, I pack up the bivouac and recharge my big Goliath. This morning is going to be magical again since I plan to do a good big off-road loop in the Spanish desert of Monégros... I don't know what to expect from this little-known desert area, hidden by the apparently obvious notoriety of the Bardenas desert, located 200 kilometers further west. The landscapes are magnificent... The tracks, even very rutted, which at first glance do not seem insurmountable, turn out to be absolutely treacherous. This first part of the desert hides its traps well... Sometimes very deep crevasses that cross the tracks, sometimes very muddy sections hidden by a thin layer of very dry earth on the surface... or even furrows taking you like railway tracks... Red earth, stones, sand and mud take turns tirelessly, even on very short sections. It's a furnace..., my big old man suffers... even at low speed, it hits everywhere... engine guard, footrests, spokes, selector... I even managed to bottom out several times... My cruise ship is well prepared in terms of protections and I have what it takes to repair a lot of breakages... but... I dare not imagine breaking a rim there in the middle... ???? Despite everything, it goes through... even loaded. The hardest part is to stay focused on deciphering the terrain, in the middle of its magnificent 360° views... ???? This first part in the Monégros completely blew me away, it was just magical... and it's not over yet... the second part will make me sweat even more as I climb onto the plateaus ???? I loved it!!! ❤️
