About :

It is not known exactly when salt mining began in these places. However, a city called Kamskoye Usolye was mentioned in the census books of the 16th century. In the 20th century, Solikamsk became the center and the only place in the USSR for the extraction of potassium-magnesium salts. The industrial pace of underground mining led to the fact that already in the 21st century, huge sinkholes began to appear in Solikamsk and neighboring Berezniki. The earth literally disappeared from under the feet of the townspeople along with their houses and vegetable gardens. This happened because abandoned mines were washed away by underground waters, and the voids in the bowels of the earth were increasing every year, threatening new sinkholes for those living on the surface.
