In the summer of 2023, I also managed to visit Gliwice, which, like Tarnowskie Góry, is quite far from the center of the Metropolis. I came to this city without any major plans, just to record something both older and newer. By the way, I could also see in all its glory the then still new transfer center located right next to the PKP station. Wandering around the city, I drove Solaris #57 to the local PKM depot and of course the plan was to return back to CP. Karton #261 on line 156 came to pick me up there. Behind it were two more 3rd generations, but I didn't know which copies and on which line they were, so I preferred not to play guess, so I got on this #261. After arriving at CP, it turned out that one of these 3 generations was the titular #43 on line 617, which was then one of the 4 oldest Solarises in Gliwice and, next to Lions #36-38, the oldest, linear car in PKM at all. Of course, I couldn't let it go, but I had to wait a bit, because it had a long break at the transfer center. But I think it was worth the wait :) The car was 17 years old on the day of recording, which is already a solid age, but apart from the worn-out joint and the strange buzzing that sometimes appeared when slowing down, it was in quite good condition. I dare say that many younger Solarises could have been more neglected. In terms of sound, the car had a nicely sprung bridge and a quite loud retarder. Another downside was the lack of air conditioning, although in many cars of that time it was normal, but here, on top of that, the windows were tiltable, not sliding, so even when you opened them, it was quite a sauna inside. Of course, all of this is written in the past tense, because all the Solarises from 2006 have already been retired and scrapped. The titular vehicle probably drove until the end of 2023, and then it was replaced by the Karton Mild Hybrid.
