In order to fully exploit the great victory at Chocim in 1673, it was necessary to act decisively, because Turkish troops were still stationed in Moldavia and Podolia. Despite the fatigue of the army and the departure of the Lithuanians, they managed to briefly take over the capital of the Principality – Iasi. Nevertheless, the Ottomans quickly regained control of all of Moldavia. During the fighting, a new king was elected, and he was Jan Sobieski. The monarch did not abandon command of the army and during a successful campaign, he defeated the enemy in the provinces of the Right Bank and won a brilliant victory in 1675 in the Battle of Lesienice, also known as the Battle of Lviv.
