Off we go on my very first day of skiing of the season in the beautiful Ötztal! It snowed heavily the night before and the landscape is covered in a wonderful winter dress. We whizz by car over snow-covered roads from Sölden to Obergurgl. Because today I will strap on my skis in Gurgl for the first time ever. The first challenge is already waiting at the parking lot. Because there you have to put on your ski boots and squeeze in. I admit, I didn't miss this procedure. Otherwise, I mentally go over whether I really thought of everything. It is unusual to head out to the ski area with full equipment again. My skis are freshly prepared, the edges sharpened and I feel well prepared. The gondola sets off and I enjoy the view of the snow-covered mountains. Currently only one lift is open as it is too stormy further up, but that doesn't bother us - we'll take what we can get! The valley run has already been prepared for this. Once we get to the top, fluffy fresh snow awaits us. Exactly what you want for the first day of skiing. Despite a light storm and somewhat limited visibility, we whizz down the slopes. I was a little worried that I might have forgotten how to ski. But it's great fun right from the start. Especially because the snow dusts with every turn and it's wonderful to whizz through the light layer of fresh snow. On the way I also meet my YouTube colleague Marius. Marius is both a DSV ski instructor and a trainer in the WSV. He also gives us a great tip: "Make sure that you maintain contact at the front of your ski boot and put weight on the outside ski. Imagine squeezing a lemon to find the right corner position!” Otherwise, we chat a bit about the upcoming season, his plans in France and Switzerland, and enjoy the magic of the snow together. Winter is here and I think we can both clearly see the anticipation. After a few runs, it's time for a break. We make ourselves comfortable in a cozy hut at the valley station. Downhill, it's called. And here we enjoy the first mulled wine of the season. A little treat at -4°C and snowfall. There's also a warm frittata soup, which is the perfect end to the lunch break. Then it's back on the slopes. It's snowed again in the meantime, and we're skiing through fluffy fresh snow again. But now the sun is even showing a little. That looks promising. We still have another day of skiing ahead of us tomorrow, maybe more will be open then and we can explore other parts of the ski area in perfect weather. That would be a dream, of course. To make sure you don't miss it, you should follow the channel directly and subscribe. After a long, cold day on the slopes, we return to the hotel, where the beautiful wellness area awaits us. The infinity pool is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and steams in the winter cold. It's an absolute feel-good moment. I let the day come to an end, enjoy the view of the mountains and am happy about the successful start to the winter season. I'm ready for many cool days of skiing!
