STRG_F reporter Svea Eckert is totally connected. She has had her "Alexa", an Amazon "Echo" smart speaker, for two years. In her own experiment, she finds out that "Alexa" and also "Hey Siri" from Apple sometimes listen to her when they shouldn't. That's because the smart speakers make mistakes. They understand voice commands that aren't voice commands. For example, when the TV is on, but also during intimate conversations with doctors, during sex, when there's an argument. How often do these mistakes happen? And who listens in when the data is being analyzed? Together with STRG_F colleague Henning Wirtz, Svea tracks down her own data. Note on the study shown in the film: Svea conducted the interview with the scientists when they had not yet finally analyzed their results. In the end, they counted 735 unintentional activations in English and around 180 in German. The results of the study on incorrect trigger words in series such as "Stranger Things" or "Modern Family" can be found here: https://unacceptable-privacy.github.io/ A film by Svea Eckert and Henning Wirtz Camera: Henning Wirtz Editing: Sarah Steffen Graphics: Christoph Lohse Editor: Salome Zadegan #alexa #smartspeaker #funk -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Every Tuesday!
