About :

The battleship Tirpitz was a sister ship to the Bismarck, which sank in May 1941 in dramatic circumstances, having previously sunk the Hood and been pursued by the main forces of the Royal Navy. The shock of the Bismarck caused British Prime Minister Winston Churchill to become obsessed with the fear that another battleship of this type would also cause similar problems. Hence, from 1941 to 1944, he pressed admirals and generals to destroy the Tirpitz. There were many attempts, but the decisive action came in September 1944. At that time, the fate of the great German ship was sealed, although this did not mean its sinking yet.
