Singapore - a city where West meets East, superstition meets progress and the past meets the future. Singapore is a city-state, one of the richest countries in the world, the life expectancy of its population is one of the highest, and Singapore is also way ahead in health, education and safety. And no landmark represents the city as much as the "Marina Bay Sands Hotel". No wonder that Singaporeans are very proud of their achievements, because just a few decades ago many of the city's residents lived in slums. Whether social housing, environmental protection or sustainable living - Singapore sees itself as the city of the future. ARD correspondent Sandra Ratzow looks behind the glittering high-tech facade and discovers much more in the multi-ethnic state. For example, the delicious specialties in the city's countless food stalls, which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. And despite the skyscrapers, you are constantly reminded in Singapore that not so long ago this city was home to wild animals. You won't find tigers here anymore, but crocodiles, monkeys and monitor lizards feel at home again in the green city.
