The sixth stage of this journey begins with a dizzying bridge crossing a gorge. At Sacco we descend to the Sammaro springs, a pool of deep blue water inside a high limestone gorge. From Sacco we climb to a panoramic saddle and then headlong into the large basin called Vallo di Diano. Here, near Padula, there are two complexes of historical and artistic importance: the baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte and the Certosa di San Lorenzo. We also visit the home of Joe Petrosino, famous for having helped capture dangerous members of the New York mafia, and here we have the privilege of hearing his story directly from the mouth of his great-grandson.
