It is not known when the first structure was built, but it is known that it was initially a watchtower and signal tower, perhaps from the 5th century to control possible incursions coming from the north, beyond the Alps. A first nucleus can be identified between the 9th and 10th centuries but it is with the Visconti that the tower was transformed into a fortress in 1348 during the construction of the Palazzo Pretorio and the Castello Visconteo di Vogogna. The complex was surrounded by walls around the entire peak on which the fortress stands. The walls were strengthened so as to be able to resist the new firearms and finally a cannon mouth was installed in the semicircular tower. In 1514 the fortress was partially demolished by Swiss bands coming from Domodossola reducing it to its current state. Decimal coordinates: 46.008426° 08.298380° h = 311 m./slm
