10 Years of Parenting Education, What Kind of Parent Are You? Numerous parenting books, educational programs, and lectures occupy the bestseller corners of large bookstores… It has been about 10 years since the so-called ‘parenting education’ began in earnest. In this day and age, parents who study to become such good parents dream of becoming ‘parents like friends’ and ‘parents who communicate with their children.’ How do the efforts of parents reach their children? We interviewed the children of the first generation to receive parenting education, from middle school to elementary school, how they communicate with their parents in their daily lives and whether they really feel like their parents are like friends. The children’s answers were surprising. Starting in the upper grades of elementary school, when learning begins in earnest, conversations begin to break down, and middle school children rarely have conversations with their parents other than telling them to ‘study.’ Parents of this age dream of becoming ‘parents like friends,’ but children find it difficult to have everyday conversations or even confide in their ‘parents who only force learning.’ Parents who want to raise their children well VS children who are hurt by their parents, the secret of this era's families revealed through four ordinary families. What role should parents play in order to raise their children well? And what is the true meaning of living as a parent? We decided to find out the answer with Professor Cho Seon-mi (Psychiatry, Ajou University), a mentor to parents of this era and a mother of two, and four ordinary pairs of parents. We first began in-depth interviews to find out what children really feel toward their parents. The confessions of elementary and middle school children from four ordinary families were shocking. All the children burst into tears, saying that they were hurt by their parents' excessive expectations and nagging. There was a 10-year-old child who couldn't stop crying for a long time, and there was a middle school child who was even considering suicide. What happened to these families who are so ordinary and whose parents make sacrifices to raise their children well? The shocking secrets of this era's families are revealed through surveillance cameras installed in the homes of four ordinary couples. How to let go of anxiety and live again as 'parents' The parents captured on camera were anxiety itself. In order to become better parents than anyone else in a fiercely competitive society, the father worked overtime and the working mother worked two jobs while running breathlessly between work and home. However, the anxiety that the children might not live a better life than me eventually led to nagging and verbal abuse. What efforts should I make to let go of anxiety and stand again as a true parent? We started a 7-month project to find the true meaning of living as a parent with Professor Cho Seon-mi and 4 families. A deeply moving drama of families in this era who break down the misunderstandings and emotional walls that have built up with their children and rewrite them anew is coming to you. ✔ Program name: Documentary Prime Family Shock Part 6 - Living as a Parent Broadcast date: 2016.09.15 #GolladunDocumentary #DocumentaryPrime #FamilyShock #Parents #Children #Communication #CommunicationWithChildren #HowToCommunicateWithChildren #Adolescence #Parenting
