Did he really travel through time? ???? Ezra was a righteous and wise servant. One day, when noon came and the heat struck him, he came to a ruin. When he entered the ruin, he got off his donkey and had with him a basket containing figs and a basket containing grapes. He took out a bowl with him and squeezed some of the grapes that were with him in the bowl. Then he took out dry bread with him and threw it into that bowl in the juice to get it wet so he could eat it. Then he lay on his back and leaned his feet against the wall. He looked at the roof of those houses and saw what was in them, and they were standing on their thrones, and their people had perished. He saw decayed bones, so he said: {How can Allah revive these after their death?} He had no doubt that Allah would revive them, but he said it in amazement. So Allah sent the Angel of Death and took his soul, so Allah caused him to die for a hundred years. When he had lived one hundred years, Allah sent an angel to Ezra. He created his heart to understand his heart and his eyes to see with them and understand how Allah revives the dead. Then He assembled his creation while he was watching, then He clothed his bones with flesh, hair and skin, then He breathed into him the spirit while he was seeing and understanding. He sat up and the angel said to him, “How long have you been?” Ezra said, “I have been a day or part of a day.” That is because he had been in the middle of the day at noon and was sent at the end of the day and the sun had not set, but after one hundred years. The angel said to him, “Rather, you have been a hundred years. Look at your food and drink.” He meant the dry bread, it had not changed. That is the meaning of His statement, “It has not become old.” That is, it has not changed. Likewise, the figs and grapes are fresh and nothing has changed in them. It was as if he had disbelieved in his heart, so the angel said to him, “Look at your donkey.” So he looked at his donkey and its bones had decayed and become rotten. Then the king called to the bones of the donkey and they responded and came from every direction until they were mounted on top of each other while Ezra was looking at him. Then he dressed them with veins and sinews, then covered them with flesh, then caused skin and hair to grow on them. Then the king breathed into them and the donkey stood up, raising its head and ears to the sky. All of this was by the command and plan of Allah. So he rode his donkey until he reached his camp, but the people did not recognize him and he did not recognize the people. So he set off until he reached his home, and there he saw a blind, crippled old woman who had been one hundred and twenty years old. Ezra said to her: O woman, is this the home of Ezra? She said: Yes, this is the home of Ezra. She wept and said: I have not seen anyone for so and so many years mention Ezra while the people have forgotten him. He said: I am Ezra. Allah caused me to die a hundred years ago and then resurrected me. She said: Glory be to Allah! We have lost Ezra for a hundred years and we have not heard any mention of him. He said: I am Ezra. She said: Ezra is a man whose prayers are answered. He prays for the sick and the afflicted for wellness and recovery. So pray to Allah to restore my sight so that I can see you. If you are Ezra, I will recognize you.
