In this episode of the Sharia and Life program dated 04/26/1998, Ahmed Mansour hosted Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, founder of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, to talk about the nature of the disagreement between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority and the reasons for the failure of Sheikh Yassin’s meeting with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in Jeddah in 1998 after Saudi mediation. At the beginning of the episode, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin confirmed that the Oslo Accords, which the Palestinian Authority concluded with Israel in 1993, are an unjust and bad agreement that does not fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the Palestinian people. It also led to the tearing apart of their unity and to the existence of security cooperation between the occupation and the Palestinian Authority to target Islamic movements, most notably Hamas. Sheikh Yassin wondered about the peace that the Palestinian Authority expects from the occupying entity, given its brutal daily aggression against the Palestinian people and its violation of all its agreements and commitments. He also revealed in detail the reasons for the outbreak of the disagreement between Hamas and the Palestinian Authority after the assassination of the Qassam leader Muhyiddin al-Sharif in March 1997 and the Authority’s accusation that elements of the movement were involved in His assassination and Sheikh Yassin denied the authority's accusations that Hamas was infiltrated by Israel, considering these attempts a distortion of the movement's struggle against the usurping Israeli entity. He confirmed in his interview that Hamas is ready to reconcile with the Palestinian Authority and resolve the dispute between them to stand together in the face of the Israeli occupation and expel it from the Palestinian territories. Regarding the nature of the movement's conflict with the occupying entity, Sheikh Yassin refused to deal with Israel as a de facto authority, stressing that Hamas will continue to fight to liberate all Palestinian territory from the Israeli occupation. Regarding the truce initiative with the occupation announced by Hamas, he explained that it is merely an initiative to stop fighting with Israel and is not a recognition of what the occupying entity has stolen from the Palestinian territories.
