Before the mountains were created, or the earth and the world were made, you are God from everlasting to everlasting. You who let men die and say, ‘Come again, O children of men!’ For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has passed away, or like a watch in the night. You send them away like a river; they are like sleep, like grass that sprouts in the morning, that blooms and sprouts in the morning and withers and dies in the evening. It is your anger that we perish, and your wrath that we perish so suddenly. For you set our iniquities before you, our undetected sins in the light before your face. Therefore all our days pass away in your anger, we spend our years like talk. Our life lasts seventy years, or at most eighty years, and what seems precious in them is only a waste of time, for it passes quickly, as if we were flying away. But who believes that you are so angry? And who fears you in your wrath? Teach us to consider that we must die, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:1-12) Considering our death - five biblical truths 1. Truth: The Lord has control over our death, You who cause people to die. (Psalm 90:3) 2. Truth: Our sin is the reason for our death It is Your anger that we perish, and Your wrath that we must die so suddenly. For You have set our iniquities before You, our undetected sins in the light before Your face. (Psalm 90:7-8) 3. Truth: Our death comes very quickly You let them pass away like a river; they are like a sleep, like grass that sprouts in the morning, that blooms and sprouts in the morning and withers and withers in the evening. (Psalm 90:5-6) 4. Truth: Our time before we die is worthless We spend our years like talk. Our life lasts seventy years, or eighty years if we are strong, and what seems precious in it is only a waste of time, for it passes quickly, as if we were flying away. (Psalm 90:9-10) 5. Truth: Our death is not the end You who say, "Return, O children of men!"
