On April 23, 1521, the Battle of Villalar took place, in which the Castilian commoners were defeated by the troops of Charles I. The War of the Communities was the beginning of the search for a series of freedoms that were being pressured by the power of the king. To celebrate this anniversary, we travel to Valladolid to make a special program from the Cortes of Castile and León with the help of the Foundation of Castile and León. We begin with the chronovisor of Jesús Callejo, discovering the most unknown side of José Zorrilla. Then Enrique Berzal, professor of Contemporary History at the University of Valladolid, talks to us about the historical context in which the war of the communities took place. Luis Fuentes, president of the Cortes of Castile and León, talks to us about the importance of this historical event as an element of cohesion in the Castilian-Leonese community. We end the program with Asunción Esteban, professor of Medieval History at the University of Valladolid who tells us about the figures who led the comunero movement in the first third of the 16th century.
