NBR INTERVIEW - 08/08/12: Traveling without having to pay anything is a right for senior citizens who earn less than 2 minimum wages per month. To help people who have difficulty proving this income, the Ministry of Social Development and Fight Against Hunger (MDS) created the senior citizen card. In 5 years, more than 1 million documents have been issued. The card is printed and distributed by city governments and used to obtain discounts or free travel on interstate flights. The card is valid for two years, counting from the date of issue, throughout the national territory. The National Deputy Secretary of Social Welfare, Valéria Gonelli, talks about the senior citizen card, its advantages and the requirements to obtain one.
