This video analyses the advantages and disadvantages of working with the sends to the auxiliary monitor outputs in PREFADER and in POSTFADER. There are two possible cases: 1 - Working with ONE MIXING BOARD to perform both the mix for the audience and the mixes for the artists' monitors. That is, a single FOH (Front of House) and MONITORS board at the same time. In this case, we will always send the instrument channels in PREFADER to the auxiliary outputs of the performers, with the aim that THE LEVEL OF THE INSTRUMENTS IN THE MONITOR MIXES does not depend on or is not affected by the channel fader, since this is dedicated exclusively to performing the main mix MAIN MIX L and R for the audience. 2 - Working with TWO INDEPENDENT MIXING BOARDS: one for FOH for the audience and another for MONITORS. In this case, we can choose between PREFADER or POSTFADER. 2.A. In PREFADER, we still have the independence of the auxiliary outputs from the channel faders. The disadvantage is that, when feedback appears, we need maximum speed. If we choose this option, we have to search for the channel and then its send potentiometer to the corresponding monitor aux, and on larger analogue consoles, this can take too long. For this reason, current digital consoles no longer use rotary send potentiometers, but faders (SENDS ON FADER) 2.B. In POSTFADER, we get maximum speed because lowering the fader of the vocalist or the microphone that produces feedback reduces the send level of that channel. The disadvantage is that it reduces the send level of that microphone channel on all monitors. Also, to maintain independence in POSFADER, we must dedicate the mixer faders only to the auxiliary output monitors, so we must do without the main mix and the MAIN MIX outputs. Therefore, we are losing two possible stereo monitors, for example, two side fills.
