She was born in Tuzla, grew up in Mramor, is originally from Kosovo, and today, for the last ten years to be exact, she has been living in her own little piece of paradise near Vienna. She started her career as a member of the female pop group “IF” from Tuzla, after which she switched to “folk music”, and her first songs in this genre were written by the legendary Milić Vukašinović. This siren woman has almost 30 years of career behind her, and this Friday she arrives in our studio - the guest of a new episode of the podcast Opet Laka je Selma Bajrami. Could Laka get by with Selma without a jeep and money, or would Selma provide them both? Why does our guest say that she is a glue for fools? Did she eat seven-crust bread during her childhood and what is she especially proud of? Selma told us how she ran away from home at the age of 13 and how she gave almost every dinar to her parents. Everything I do, I do with all my heart. I would give my life for my parents and my family, it's been like that from the beginning, from a young age, since I earned my first dinar singing. At the beginning it was 15 - 20 KM, and later, when I released the first album, 1,000 - 1,500 KM. When I was a girl, while I was still an amateur, I left it to myself to paint my nails and do my hair, I gave everything else to my father and mother. My father was never in favor of me doing music, but, quite simply, I struggled so much. Mom used to spank me occasionally, but, when I think about it, maybe she should have spanked me more. You know the thing, the electricity goes out, then the generator works, then the dance, I put on my sister's graduation dress and draw a crayon in the dark and run away at the age of 13 to sing, Selma said. She admitted that the fight for custody, for a while, set her career back, and she also looked back on the period after the divorce when she went out on the street with two suitcases.
