The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass is as if it were a pearly star lit from a blessed olive tree, neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples of what He wills. {Parables are for mankind, and Allah is Knowing of all things.} Supplications of Light O Allah, place in my heart light, in my sight light, in my hearing light, to my right light, to my left light, above me light, below me light, in front of me light, behind me light, and make for me light. O Allah, enlighten my sight, my insight, my heart, and my determination with Your light, O Light of Light, and illuminate my path with Your light, and reveal to me the secrets of knowledge and darkness, and reveal to me the worlds of the unseen, and make for me a light by which I walk among people and am guided by it in the darkness, in life, in death, in the grave, in my afterlife, and in Paradise. Glory be to You, You are the Light, from You is the Light, and by You we are enlightened, O Light of Light, O Allah, O Allah, O Allah. O Allah, Lord of light, Creator of light, Enlightener of light, Splitter of light, Maker of light, I ask You by Your name, light, to make me in the light, from the light, and to the light, and to provide me with light, and to guide me with light, and to provide me with the angels of light, until I become in the light a part of the light, so I repel with light the darkness of my heart, my soul, my self, my body, and all darkness, O Light of light, by right of light, and there is no power or strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Almighty. O Allah, O Light, O All-Knowing, You are the One Who has encompassed all things in knowledge, and has encompassed all things in wisdom. I ask You to bless Muhammad and his family, and to enlighten my heart with the lights of Your knowledge, until I do not find in the universe an atom, nor a fine thing, nor a minute thing, except that it has been covered by the light of knowledge and revelation, which lifts for me from it the veils of ambiguity, until I witness with the light of knowledge what it contains of the wonders of secrets, the curiosities of sciences, and the marvels of wisdom. And grant me an abundant share of the knowledge of Your beautiful names and a generous portion of the subtleties of Your supreme attributes, until my dormant share is established, with the light of Your comprehensive kindness. Ascending to the levels of happiness, extended with goodness and more, and I ask You, O Allah, to reveal to me from the knowledge of its letters, with the variety of its types and kinds, what attacks me to decipher its symbols and extract its treasures, so that the materials of its difficulty in its arrangement do not become difficult for me, with the difference in its meanings in its individuals, its expansion and its composition. And provide me with a strength from You by which I can deduce what You have deposited in it of the hidden subtleties and extract what You have included in it of the subtleties of knowledge, and make for me a path to exploring its mysteries and make it for me in every obscured place a guide. And subject me, O Allah, to the service of Your sciences and secrets, and open for me, O Allah, in the deliciousness of Your supplications and remembrances, a humility that makes my skin shiver from the dazzle of Your greatness and my heart is reassured by the joy of witnessing Your mercy, and let me taste from the pleasure of Your supplications and the sweetness of Your service so that I do not tire of remembering You, nor forget to thank You, nor turn to anyone but You, nor rely on anyone but You. I implore You to grant me from every pure knowledge, from every kindness the most perfect and abundant, from every grace the most complete and greatest, from Your pleasure the most complete, from the knowledge of the truth the purest, from the knowledge of the Shari’ah the most sufficient, from the knowledge of nature the most enriching, and from all the sciences beyond what I wish for. O God, sanctify the secret of my inner self and enlighten the sight of my insight, and protect me from all corruption from me, and inspire me with the perfections of things and the ways of the saints and establish me on the methods of the prophets, and make me from You among the rich, and support me from You with an argument and proof, evidence and authority, and make my chest a dwelling place for Your secret and my heart a mine for Your light, and make my whole being a home for Your remembrance, and provide me from You with the light of the gifted knowledge and help me with the acquired knowledge, and teach me from the subtleties of Your unseen knowledge, for You are the Kn
