This time we visited a mysterious burial mound field in the Palatinate Forest. A burial mound or a burial mound is an elongated, round or oval mound of earth under or in which graves are located. These can be body burials, urn graves or scattered cremated remains. Burial mounds were built in many eras, in Europe from the beginning of the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages. Even written cultures knew burial mounds. In ancient times, the Greeks built burial mounds for their heroes, as did the Romans. In Eurasia, there are burial mounds in numerous countries and cultures. The largest burial mounds are probably the mounds above the graves of the early Chinese emperors. They contain huge underground burial complexes. The most famous is the mausoleum of Qin Shihuangdi.
