Spanning roughly 201 to 145 million years BC, this era witnessed the emergence and evolution of numerous dinosaur species, contributing to an unprecedented biodiversity that still fascinates paleontologists and prehistory buffs today. As we delve into the history of the Jurassic, we uncover not only the secrets of the dinosaurs’ dominance over our planet, but also the mysteries surrounding their sudden extinction – an event that continues to fuel scientific debate and research. Jurassic dinosaurs, such as the gigantic Brachiosaurus and the ferocious Allosaurus, display impressive diversity, with various adaptations that allowed them to thrive in many environments. These prehistoric giants were not limited to formidable carnivores; many herbivorous species also shaped the ecosystems of this time, creating a complex and interdependent food chain. The study of their fossils, discovered in various geological layers around the world, offers invaluable clues about their behaviour, diet and ecology. However, the high point of this fascinating era was the extinction of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous, some 66 million years ago. This mass extinction, which also saw nearly 75% of the Earth’s species disappear, is often blamed on global catastrophes such as a massive asteroid impact and massive volcanic aftermath. Modern research in fields such as geochemistry, paleontology, and climatology continues to reveal how these events not only ended the reign of the dinosaurs, but also paved the way for the rise of mammals, including humans. By exploring the Jurassic, we’re not just looking back to a bygone era; we’re plumbing the depths of our own planetary past, trying to understand how events from this distant time shaped the contemporary world we live in today. 🔥 As a reminder, videos premiere on SUNDAYS at 9:00 PM. ------------------------- 💥 THE JURASSIC: The first group includes the conifers, also known as pinophytes. This group includes the Cheirolepidiaceae, a now extinct family. However, the Araucaria and Podocarpaceae still exist. The pinophytes are large trees. They are easily distinguished from the others by their cone-shaped fruits. These cones serve as reproductive organs of the plant. In this tree, some cones are male and others female. These trees are called gymnosperms. Reproduction requires a little help from Mother Nature, especially from the wind, but also from some insects from the mecoptera family, active since the Middle Jurassic. They also constitute an ecological niche for small insectivorous animals that settle in the forest. Everything is related in nature. The great advantage of these pinophytes is their ability to establish themselves in a wide variety of environments, even the harshest ones. Thus, they have managed to colonize a large part of the land mass, even intertropical regions or saline environments, near coasts and maritime areas, for example. But this is not enough to compete with angiosperms, the flowering plants that will soon occupy much of its territory. In addition to pinophytes, the forest is also populated by ginkgophytes. These Ginkgo species are the dominant trees in the canopy. They can reach heights of up to 40 meters. In this forest, we can see Ginkgo digitata and adiantoides. The digitata have fan-shaped, toothed leaves. These species thrive in tropical and semi-tropical climates. ------------------------- 🎬 Today's program: 00:00 - Introduction 03:07 - Before the Jurassic 07:54 - The Jurassic This channel is an official affiliate of the ORBINEA STUDIO network.
