About :

The Aztec civilization dates back to the middle of the fourteenth century AD when the Aztecs were just tribes subject to the authority of the Tepanec, one of the powerful tribes near the current Mexican capital. However, that powerful tribe fought them and forced them to move and search for another place that would provide them with protection and distance them from their enemy from the rest of the civilizations of the Americas. As a result, they focused their efforts on building villages around Lake Texcoco (connected to Lake Xochimilco) in preparation for building their safe capital in the middle of the lake, which quickly gradually turned into a cultural center for a vast empire after the Aztecs allied with other tribes and were able to overcome the Tepanec. This victory opened the way for them to expand the base of their state and its influence until they controlled the entire region extending from central Mexico to the borders of the Yucatan Peninsula (in the southeast), overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Then, they subjugated many tribes and peoples in their quest to form their empire, and among the most prominent tribes they defeated were the Tlaxcala tribes. The Aztecs linked their large empire with a set of methods that facilitated their control over it. They also established a precise system of communication between the parts of the empire through messengers who would run to deliver orders to remote areas, which allowed them to have relative control over their various properties in addition to quickly responding to any danger. The Aztec society was primarily an agricultural society and relied on advanced irrigation systems. They had all the components of an agricultural society. Also, commercial activity with neighboring tribes - whether subject to their direct rule or subject to their influence - was one of the most important sources of income for the Aztec Empire. This trend was helped to continue by the strong central administration based on a huge army that enemies feared. However, the strange thing is that this empire did not have a "regular army" in the concept that is prevalent today or over the past millennia, as male children until an advanced age in the youth stage worked in trade and agriculture, and then they were trained in the arts of combat and war organizations to be ready. For general mobilization and waging wars when necessary as quickly as possible, and promotion in the army was based on the warrior's ability to capture the largest number of enemies, and these were sacrificed in a brutal manner to please their gods, and the ranks of individuals were distinguished by the shapes of feathers they wore during battles. The Aztecs relied on the army to subjugate neighboring tribes, and impose a type of taxes and fees on them. On the other hand, as was the custom of those tribes at that time, it was associated with a strong priestly dimension, like the Mayan civilization, represented in their many gods that embodied most of the natural phenomena and agricultural and food products. The Aztecs' greatest god, Quetzalcoatl, was the center of the gods for them, and the granter of security to the empire. There was a firm belief that he protected them, and they even interpreted natural phenomena as their own messages. Perhaps one of the strange ironies is that the defeat of this empire came for a reason related to the belief of their leader, Montezuma, that the Spanish invaders came with a message from the greatest god, heralding the end of his rule, so he submitted to the Spanish leader, Hernan Cortez, which led to the defeat of the Aztecs and the demise of their kingdom at the hands of a group of Spaniards not exceeding five hundred and fifty soldiers led by Cortez. Then the distinguishing note is that this civilization was defeated and annihilated in a very short time, relatively speaking, and completely disintegrated in favor of the Spanish invasion, which quickly declared the Aztec Kingdom part of "New Spain" among other regions, despite its strength and technological development compared to neighboring tribes and states.
