He therefore became a revered icon in modern Czech culture. Busts of him decorated schools, President Masaryk had his grave in Naarden in the Netherlands renovated at great expense, and comeniology was born as a field of research. Comenius' complicated life fate, often even bizarre interests and some extreme opinions, difficult to understand today, are mostly unknown to the public. The documentary therefore tries to show this hidden face of Jan Ámos. It introduces the audience to the time of Comenius' life, the time of fierce political and confessional struggles as well as the revival of superstitions and magic, when astronomy and astrology intermingle and chemistry and the search for the Philosopher's Stone. The contributions of leading experts then approach Comenius as a deep thinker and the last bishop of the Fraternal Unity, heroically bearing the hard blows of life, but also as a tireless political pamphleteer, warmonger and schemer, willing to unite against his opponents with anyone, a wild mystic who believed in his own prophetic mission, follower of obscure visionaries, utopian and delirious constructor of perpetua mobile. The most famous Czech exile, teacher of the nations, Jan Ámos Segéš, known as Comenius, was also all this.
