Bees create a new colony in the spring, with the queen leaving the old colony and taking half of the bees with her. The swarmed bees quickly gather on a clump in a bush and scouts look for a good place to house them again. If this is successful, all the bees from the swarm fly up again and go to the new location. Because there is hardly any good nesting space to be found in an urban environment, the swarm withers and eventually all the bees die. Beekeepers try to rescue the swarm and give it shelter in an empty beehive. This keeps the bees alive and nuisance to a minimum.
