The late classicist Schmakentin manor house is located near the Hanseatic city of Wismar and is carefully preserved. The place was first mentioned in 1217 as "Zmaguntin" and is older than Wismar, the oldest Hanseatic city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In the 18th century, the estate passed through the hands of the Boye family. The Boyes sold Schmakentin to the district administrator Otto Christoph von Raven, who sold it on to Anton Friedrich Krafft in 1801. In 1828, the Unruh brothers took over the estate, until it passed to Werner Friedrich Keding in 1841. The Keding family remained the owners until 1945. Christian Friedrich Keding was the lord of the manor from 1871 and a successful businessman. He was a partner in the Wismar grain trading company GW Löwe. The Löwe warehouse, built in 1935, at the Wismar harbor is a testament to the successful business. The Thormann warehouse next door has been part of the business since 1893. Both warehouses are UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Kedings had the manor house built as a two-storey plastered building with a hipped roof. On the courtyard side, the manor house has seven axes with a central projection with a gable roof and suggested side projections. A rotunda with half windows was added on the park side. After the building was expropriated in 1945, it served as a refugee center and later as a village shop. During the GDR era, decorative elements were removed, the manor house was partially rebuilt and gradually fell into disrepair after 1990. In 2005, an architect bought the house, prevented it from being demolished, and in 2009 a support association was founded. The overgrown park with its old trees has been restored since 2008. The manor house is slowly being restored according to historical models so that it can shine in the splendor it once did in 1841.
