The Saltıkname, a hagiography compiled and written by Ebu'l Hayr-i Rumi from oral culture in the 15th century, is one of the rare texts of Turkish literature. It also contains many elements from Persian, Arabic and Balkan mythology and literature. The main character of the text is Sarı Saltuk, a ghazi-dervish. He fights against infidels as well as demons, fairies, giants and cazus. In this section, he sets out towards Mount Kaf to save both the Pope's son Şemmas and his own son Muhammed, and to answer the questions of Cazu Şemasil.
