In one of the most memorable finals of all time in Brazilian football, Raí came from France, two days before the final, to play the last game of the São Paulo championship. Tricolor had lost the first game of the final by 2x1, losing the advantage of a draw to Corinthians and, a week before, Raí had gone through the worst moment of his career; when he was booed and had his name shouted to leave a packed Maracanã stadium, in the last friendly match of the Brazilian National Team before the World Cup. However, undeterred and knowing the risk of being massacred if São Paulo lost, the experienced player showed class and calmness, commanding the team from the field, where he scored a goal and provided an assist for França to score São Paulo's second goal. With the third goal scored by França himself, Tricolor secured the title of the São Paulo Championship, and Raí became the main name of the championship, even though he only played one game.
