Let me introduce you to Sumadera Station on the Sanyo Electric Railway. It is located in Suma Ward, Kobe City. If you go north from the station, you will find Sumadera Temple, and if you go south, you will find Tsunashiki Tenmangu Shrine, which is associated with Sugawara no Michizane. Sumadera has been around since the Heian period, but it became famous for storing and exhibiting Taira no Atsumori's favorite Aoba flute. Atsumori was a nobleman of the Taira clan who was killed by Kumagai Naozane in the Battle of Ichinotani, and the scene of his final moments has brought tears to the eyes of many Japanese people since ancient times.
