I make and test sanding drums from rake handles in different ways. I faced the task of sanding concave surfaces. Initially, I set a goal not to make sanding drums with wrapped sandpaper inserted into sawn slots, that is, the sanding material should be wound in a spiral. This way, there are no rigid joints, and sanding is more correct. First, I figured out how the unique angle at which the sanding tape is wound is obtained. It turned out that with a sanding belt width equal to the drum diameter, the angle is formed by indenting from one corner of the sanding belt by the length of the drum circumference. Then the winding is tight, without gaps and overlaps. But it turned out that it is easier to catch the angle by wrapping the tape around the drum, and then fix the edges of the tape with hot glue. I recommend it! Initially, I made sanding drums for use on my lathe, but for those who are always complaining about the lack of equipment, I made a fully functional version for a screwdriver.
