SPLENDORS OF PUGLIA TAKES US THROUGH THE ROADS THAT LEAD FROM GARGANO TO SALENTO TO REVIVE THE SPLENDORS OF THIS LAND RICH IN HISTORY, CULTURE AND ART. Ulisse, the pleasure of discovery, hosted by Alberto Angela. The journey to discover the treasures of Puglia continues and, after the first episode last week dedicated to the treasures of the north of our region with stops in Gargano and the hinterland of Bari, today it is the turn of the Salento Peninsula. Alberto Angela's journey starts right from the capital of Lecce, capital of the Baroque: the many seventeenth-century wonders, in fact, will be the common thread of the visit of the Rai 3 crew to the city. And then the palaces, the dozens of churches that are true hymns to art, the streets and then the central Piazza Sant'Oronzo, with the Roman column that supports the Patron Saint, the Sedile and the remains of the Roman amphitheater, a true jewel with authentic surprises inside. But not only architectural beauties: Alberto Angela, in fact, will go to discover the ancient crafts of our land, starting from the papier-mâché craftsmanship, of which the streets of the historic center are dotted with ancient workshops. Ulysses' journey will then move to the province. One of the chosen stops is Galatina, more precisely inside the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria. The Church represents one of the most precious treasures of the entire territory, where it seems like you are no longer in Puglia, but in Assisi, thanks to the frescoes inspired by Giotto and that decorate the walls and ceiling of the basilica. From Galatina, then, the itinerary will start towards the phenomenon of the taranta, an ancient musical rite that is revived every year thanks to the 'Notte della Taranta'. But when we talk about Salento, we cannot ignore the coasts of our seas. Alberto Angela will lead all the viewers of his show inside the famous caves dug into the rocks, above all that of Zinzulusa. And again a tour of the most famous seaside towns in the world, such as Gallipoli, the Pearl of the Ionian Sea, and Santa Maria di Leuca, a crossroads of exchanges and encounters of cultures. Another fundamental stop on the journey will be the one that leads to the discovery of one of the most precious goods of Salento: olive oil. In a period of particular controversy linked to the phenomenon of Xylella and which risks bringing to its knees a thousand-year-old economy, based precisely on yellow gold, Alberto Angela will visit a centuries-old olive grove, telling the ancient art of oil extraction, to be protected. A passage, this, a fundamental juncture of the evening. The last visit in Salento will be to the Archaeological Museum of Taranto, called Marta: right there where ancient jewels are kept, which for their particular refinement have nothing to envy to the modern ones.
