Who was the Count of Saint-Germain? Legend has it that he was an immortal man who, over the centuries, appeared here and there, in the main courts of Europe and in various relevant events in history. There is even a legend that he was a vampire in New Orleans at the beginning of the 20th century. In this documentary video in Spanish we tell you the true story of the Count of Saint-Germain, his biography... as far as it is possible to know it. It is not even known when or where he was born. He himself took care to surround himself with a halo of mystery, since he always acknowledged that Saint-Germain was not his real name, but he hid his true name and his country of origin. He came into this world between 1690 and 1710. As you can see, he uses a 20-year-old hairpin! According to legend, he was born in 1691, in a castle in the Carpathian Mountains. His last protector and good friend, Prince Charles of Hesse-Kassel, claimed that Saint-Germain told him that he had been born in 1696 and was the son of Prince Francis Rákóczi II of Transylvania. But he never openly acknowledged who his father was as a protective measure, given the persecution that the Rákóczi II dynasty suffered from the Habsburgs, whom it had faced in the framework of the Hungarian war of independence. But be careful, because there are sources that have pointed to a Spanish origin for Saint-Germain: according to these, he was the natural son of Charles II's widowed queen, Mariana of Neuburg. That she would have had the baby with a banker from Madrid when she settled in the French city of Bayonne after being banished from Madrid by Philip V in 1701. There are many other theories: from that he was a Medici to that he was the natural son of the King of Portugal, John V. The fact that Saint-Germain spoke Spanish and Portuguese without any accent reinforces for some the theory of his peninsular origin, but the count also spoke very well German, English, Italian, French, Arabic, Russian, Latin, Greek, Chinese, Sanskrit... In fact, those who knew him agree in pointing out that he was a charismatic man, very cultured and interested in the arts, medicine, science, politics... Some of you will ask, and that French name? Saint-Germain. There are those who point out that it is a nickname that he took from the Latin 'Sanctus Germanus' ("Holy brother"). We first hear of this character around 1743, in London, where he settled and gained some recognition as a musician, as he was a great violinist. He even participated in the composition of the opera 'L'incostanza delusa', premiered at the Haymarket Theatre in 1745, with some songs of his own, and he published several pieces for violin, among other works.
