The Heimenhausen sawmill is a classic facility, with a dam, canal and water wheel that drives a two-steel single gear. It was probably built in its current form around 1880 and not much has changed since then. Time has not passed the sawmill by, however, and in 1996 it was in a deplorable state. Despite this, the sawing machine was still in such good condition that sawing could begin just 5 months after it was taken over. This meant that the lumber for the restoration could be produced on site. This also explains why no public funds have been used to date. The facility is powered by a Zuppinger downhill wheel. It is already a transition between a turbine and a water wheel, and represents the last generation in the millennia-old history of water wheels. Link: http://www.sagiheimenhausen.ch
