The first section from Sarreguemines via Saarbrücken, Völklingen and Saarlouis ends in Merzig after 71 kilometers. Stage two runs via Mettlach and Saarburg to the mouth of the Saar near Konz and measures 49 kilometers. Our Saar cycle path is 120 kilometers long in total. The official distance is given as 110 kilometers. A hike to Cloef with a fantastic view of the Saar loop is worthwhile. The route is very well signposted and mostly asphalted. The gravel paths are also easy to ride on. Occasional climbs only extend for a few hundred meters. The Saar cycle path runs almost exclusively on separate cycle paths, which are sometimes accompanied by a motorway between Saarbrücken and Saarlouis. After Merzig it becomes much quieter and more idyllic and almost car-free up to the mouth of the Saar near Konz. Stage 1 offers more culture, stage 2 more nature. The Saar Cycle Path was rightly awarded 4 stars by the ADFC as a quality route. We also think that the Saar Cycle Path is a beautiful route that is also suitable for beginners. The railway line that runs parallel offers options for arrival and departure. For a weekend tour, you should allow at least two full days of cycling. On our trip, we are connecting the Saar Cycle Path with the Moselle Cycle Path at this point. **************************************************** Route on Komoot Stage 1: https://www.komoot.de/tour/575460644?...
