On May 31, 1970, Huascarán, the highest mountain in Peru, became the protagonist of one of the most devastating natural tragedies in history. In a matter of minutes, an avalanche of ice, rocks, and snow devastated the city of Yungay, burying more than 20 thousand people under tons of debris. In this video, I will take you through the events of that fateful day, exploring how and why this disaster occurred.
