WHAT TYPE OF AUTHORIZATION IS FAMILY ROOTS? Family Roots is a temporary residence permit for exceptional circumstances that may be granted to foreign citizens who are in Spain and are either the father or mother of a minor of Spanish or EU nationality, or are the children of a father or mother who were originally Spanish. This type of residence permit is characterized by having a duration of one year, and during this time you can reside and work in Spain both as a self-employed person or as an employee. Like any other residence and work permit, once you are close to its expiration, you must renew it in order to remain in Spain in a completely legal manner. FAMILY ROOTS FOR RELATIVES OF SPANIARDS One of the assumptions to be able to process Family Roots is if you are: Spouse or accredited common-law partner of a Spanish citizen.
