Learn how to prepare the ground for the installation of a #Rotoplas #Cistern. ???? Building a cistern in your home is useful for storing drinking water, especially in places where there is a shortage. Here we show you step by step how to build and prepare the surface to install a 2,800 L Rotoplas cistern. **Do you want to learn more about how to build, remodel, and decorate? This information will define the type and depth of the excavation, as well as the thickness of the template on which you will place the cistern. There are soft, medium, and rocky soils. To find out what type of soil you are going to bury the cistern in, you can do a simple test with a glass of water. SOIL TYPE AND EXPANSION COEFFICIENT TEST Mark centimeter by centimeter on a glass until you reach 5, grab some soil from the place where the cistern will be buried and fill the glass up to centimeter 3, fill the glass completely with water and shake it vigorously. Let the glass rest for 1 hour, then measure how far the sedimented water is left and look for this measurement in the expansion coefficient table. Once you have this coefficient, look for it in the measurement table and locate the correct excavation depth measurements, template thickness and more according to the capacity of the Rotoplas cistern you are going to install in your house. How to make a water cistern for home STEP 1. LOCATION AND CLEANING Locate the cistern in an easily accessible place for maintenance, usually in the yard or garden. Once the location has been defined, clear the space of trash, stones or debris. STEP 2. LAYOUT Trace the measurements of the cistern with guide lines to delimit the construction area. STEP 3. EXCAVATION Carry out the excavation in the area delimited with the measurements you obtained previously. Do not forget to add the thickness of the slab to the depth. STEP 4. LEVELING Compact the earth with a hand tamper to level the area. Tamp evenly until the earth is flat and compact. STEP 5. TEMPLATE Place a 5 to 10 centimeter template of low-strength concrete f'c = 150kg / cm2. The mixture is composed of 1 bag of cement + 8 cans of gravel + 6 cans of sand + 2 cans of water. STEP 6. FLOOR LAYOUT OR TEMPLATE Place 6x6-10/10 electrowelded mesh on the floor of the cistern. To pour the mesh, prepare a mix with 1 50 KG bag of IMPERCEM cement + 8 cans of gravel + 6 cans of sand + 2 cans of water. The thickness of this template is 5 or 10 cm and the concrete has a strength of f'c = 150kg/cm2. STEP 7. ASSEMBLING CASTLES Assemble 10 x 10 cm castles, made up of 4 3/8 rods and wire rod stirrups every 20 cm, place one in each corner of the perimeter. It is recommended that the rods protrude 40 cm to tie the castles with the fencing chain. STEP 8. RAISING THE PLANK WALL Lay a guide wire from side to side of the castle to ensure the straight line of the first row, then prepare the mix with a 50 kg bag of OPTIMAL MORTAR + 7 to 9 cans of sand + water. Place a layer of mix on the surface to stick the first row of brick, starting from the second row, stick the brick in a four-trap shape. In places where there are castles, cut the brick in a serrated shape to have a better tie between the castle and the brick. STEP 9. CASTING CASTLES Form the castles so that they can be cast. To cast these elements, we will use a 50 KG bag of IMPERCEM cement + 6 cans of gravel + 4 1/2 cans of sand + 1 1/2 cans of water for a resistance of F'c = 200kg/cm2. Let the concrete set for 12 to 24 hours before removing the formwork. STEP 10. ATTACHING THE COUNTERBEAM After removing the formwork, assemble the counterbeam around the entire perimeter of the wall, using 3/8” rods and wire stirrups every 20 cm. Once you have completed these 10 steps, the construction is ready to receive and install the Rotoplas cistern.
