The village is located at an altitude of 1353 m. There are two versions of how Umoljani got its name. According to one, herders Humljani from Herzegovina came to graze with their cattle in the summer and some stayed there to live permanently. According to the second, the dragon came out of the Rakitnica canyon, which is 3 km from the village, and passed through Studeni potok, meandering with the intention of devouring the population. At the entrance to Umoljane in Dolovi, about 200 meters from the bridge, there is a necropolis with 47 stećaks. Three old tombstones were recorded about 200 m from the necropolis to the north, while 8 tombstones were recorded about 300 m further on. At a place called Crkvina, the remains of a medieval sacral building, overgrown with grass, have been registered. West of Dolovo there is a solitary stećak – a gabled tombstone with a plinth and decoration. To the west, at a distance of about 200 m from the solitary stećak, five chest-shaped tombstones, which are completely submerged. The listed objects, as a historical site, together with the natural environment, have been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the very entrance to the village there is a mosque with a specific minaret adapted to the weather conditions in this area. There are no written records of when the mosque was built, but it is believed to be older than the Turhan Emin-beg Mosque in Ustikolina. There are also indications that it could have been built on some of the Bogumil stećak tombstones. The remains of ancient settlements are scattered around the village, with large number of medieval tombstones located high on the cliffs. The Studeno Polje Valley is a small place behind the summer shepherd village of Gradina, which is located in the immediate vicinity of Umoljani.
