Jan Rokita is a former oppositionist interned during martial law. He was an activist of the Freedom and Peace Movement and a participant in the Round Table talks. In 1989, he became the head of the Extraordinary Commission to investigate the criminal activities of the security apparatus of the Polish People's Republic. In Suchocka's government, he was the minister-head of the Office of the Council of Ministers. Politician of the Freedom Union, the Conservative People's Party and the Civic Platform. He gained popularity thanks to his work in the investigative commission investigating the so-called Rywin affair. In 2005, he won the mandate of a member of parliament for the sixth time in a row. He was the PO candidate for the head of government - during the campaign, he advertised himself as the "prime minister from Kraków". In 2007, he announced that he was withdrawing from politics, just after his wife Nelli Rokita became an advisor to President Lech Kaczyński on women's issues. A few years ago, he moved from Kraków to the Podkarpacie region. He lectures at a university and writes columns.
