Rutherford's atomic model is probably the most deeply rooted model in our imagination. The idea of an atom with a nucleus and an electrosphere with electrons revolving around this nucleus like planets revolving around the Sun is extremely popular. In this video we discuss how the atomic nucleus was discovered by New Zealand physicist Ernest Rutherford in his famous experiment known as the Rutherford experiment, or Geiger-Mardsen experiment or gold foil experiment. We will see how the idea of a nucleated atom became Rutherford's atomic model (or planetary model) from the idea of Thomson's atom (plum pudding model). We will discover that the real experiment was carried out by German physicist Hans Geiger and New Zealand physicist Ernest Mardsen under Rutherford's supervision. We will study in detail the motivations that led to the proposal of the planetary atomic model, the physics behind this model and finally the major conceptual problem that this atomic model carries. #historiadoatomo #rutherford #atomoderutherford
