(SW) Recording/editing/commentary: Gabriel Simons In the Brechkaule, the flax stalks that have rotted during the so-called dew roasting process are dried over a fire pit, then the Stem husks are splintered and removed. When "swinging" on the threshing floor, the raw fiber bundles are beaten with the thin blade of the swing until the last pieces of wood are stripped off. In order to separate out the coarser components, the fibers are pulled over a board with rows of iron teeth during "hacking". We are now the only scientists in Germany to use the medium of film specifically for research and presentation. The approximately 260 film productions created in recent decades are irreplaceable documents of lost knowledge from agriculture, crafts, industrial work and the diverse regional customs. Today we use the medium of film primarily to document current processes of change and to accompany people in the Rhineland in their lives. In doing so, we create films about intercultural phenomena and problems, about changes in the world of work, about new forms of social coexistence and about dealing with rituals, customs and traditions. The majority of the film documentaries from the LVR Institute for Regional Studies and Regional History are also available on DVD. The complete film catalogue can be found on our homepage under Everyday Culture - Films. ► https://rheinische-landeskunde.lvr.de
