Recording date: March 2, 1985 (Showa 60) Recording vehicle: Oha 472261 Mizumito Recording section: (Taira starting) Haranomachi 1947 - Hamayoshida - Sendai 2126 Locomotive: ED75112 (long) Regular service of old passenger cars had already ended from Uenoguchi, and this was just before the timetable change on March 15, 1985, when old passenger cars were completely abolished in the Tohoku region. Even so, long-distance local trains north of Mito on the Joban Line and north of Kuroiso on the Tohoku Main Line had long stops at major stations, so although I boarded from Taira, I was able to take my time and take pictures at stations along the way. Due to the size of the cassette tape, only the section between Haranomachi and Sendai was recorded. There are relatively long stops at the stations along the way to change trains, but the whole thing was recorded without any cuts. I remember that it was snowy and cold outside on the day. The deck is open, but once the doors are closed, the heating inside the car is warm thanks to the EG supplied by the ED75, and I feel like I slept most of the time except when I was changing the tape from side A to side B (lol). Before arriving at Sendai Station, the voices of a young couple around high school age talking are a little noticeable, but an announcement like "Please wait until the train comes to a complete stop. Please do not jump off the train while it is moving" is unthinkable nowadays. The man in the couple was about to jump off the train, but the woman warned him, "No!" (lol) It was just before it was retired, but there was no panic like today when groups of "funeral train enthusiasts" flocked in, and I think that only a few people who were sad to say goodbye came little by little and left such records. There was little information, which was inconvenient when I think about it now, but it was a good time. I found out later that several of the five passenger cars currently in operation at Takasaki Rolling Stock Center... I think that this train was the one that belonged to Mito. I lost the memo paper on which I recorded the train formation at that time, so I'm not sure, but I remember it was ED75112 + Suhafu 422173 + Oha 472261 + Oha 472266. The image was taken with a bulb shot of the train formation at Taira Station. As of November 2014, the Soma-Watari section is still out of service, but this is the sound source from the "usual" days of the Joban Line before the tsunami hit the line between Soma and Watari. We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in the earthquake disaster in this section, and we hope that the peaceful days of these days will return.
