Šumburk (also Šumná, German Schönburg) is a castle ruin in the cadastral area of Klášterec nad Ohří in the Chomutov district. It is located about three kilometers west of the city on the top of the hill of the same name at an altitude of about 540 meters. The Gothic castle was founded in the first half of the fifteenth century by the lords of Šumburk. Later, its possession was alternated by the lords of Illburk and Fictumová, among others. However, in the second half of the sixteenth century, the owners did not live there, and the dilapidated castle was not repaired after a major fire. The castle also included a farmyard, around which the extinct settlement of Šumná gradually grew. Since 1963, the castle ruins have been protected as a cultural monument.[1]
