#Rovomobil #ddr #streamline This photo of the Rovomobil was taken together with the curator of the August Horch Museum in Zwickau, Randy Kempf, and Thomas Müller from the August Horch Museum Association. In the early 1970s, Eberhard Scharnowski and Klaus Arndt, professors of scientific and technical fundamentals at the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy in Halle, had a vision - the Rovomobil. In 1973, they decided to make this vision a reality and began developing and building this unique vehicle. To do this, Arndt and Scharnowski set up a workshop in a former file cutter's workshop on Franckeplatz in Halle, which was actually scheduled for demolition. In this workshop, they began building a 1:5 model of the bodywork out of plaster before creating a full-size model out of plywood, foam, wire mesh, and plaster, and making the negative mold. After months of fine work, the first bodywork made of a fiber-plastic composite was finally produced in the negative mold. The name Rovomobil is derived from the bundles of reinforcing fibers, the so-called rovings. The body shells were made of polyester resin from the Buna works and glass fiber textiles from the VEB Glasseidenwerk Oschatz.
