The guests of the interwar Klaipėda city were welcomed not only in German order, but also with buildings designed by German architects. The first object is the former home of Mejhofer's shipping company in the era of steamships, and in the interwar period it was the Klaipėda region directory, the corridors of which the writer Ieva Simonaitytė also walked. Few people know that the construction of this building was overseen by the President of Lithuania A Smetona himself, and he did not hide that he was inspired by the power of Chicago's skyscrapers. The show's team will also explain how the residents of Klaipėda region lived in the interwar period, who, according to K. Antanaitis, had reason to look down on Lithuanians. Another object is the Klaipėda Savings Bank building. What is this, the arch of the former oldest city. Designed by Paul Giesing, the building fascinated the residents of the port city and the guests of the city at that time? A real gem of architecture is the Klaipėda Post Office Palace, whose tower's carillon still delights the ears of music connoisseurs. "Here is the second carillon. The first one was built by a German," says prof. Stanislovas Žilevičius laughs that even here you can see a kind of competition between the cities.
