This week's LRT PLUS show "Stop lane" route no. 110 - Vilnius. "Literatu kavinė", "Nykštukas", "Suokalbis" and "Čitalka". The protagonists of this route: city researcher, author of books Darius Pocevičius and artist, illustrator, author of the murals of the "Nykštuko" cafe Birutė Žilytė. The show's team will travel to the legendary "Literātu kavinės", a place where a whole generation of writers practiced. At the beginning of the 20th century, the first Lithuanian cafe "Birutė" opened here in Vilnius, and in the interwar period, Rudnicki's cafe, popular among artists, was also frequented by Česlovas Miloš. Antanas Šabaniauskas's wife, Vanda, worked here at the bar, so when everyone went to the cafe, they said: "we're going to Šabaniauskienė's". Café "Nykštukas" is the first café in Lithuania dedicated to children. The interior of the cafe was commissioned to the artist Laimučius Ločeris, and he invited a couple of artists to help him - Algirdas Steponavičius and Birutė Žilytė. The cafe closed and its interior was destroyed in 1998. The next stop is the House of the Writers' Union. The editorial offices of "Pergalės" (now "Metų") and "Literatūros ir meno" and a kind of writers' dormitory were located here. A turbulent bohemian life was boiling in "Suokalbi". Many lost their health here, and some lost their lives. The steep and handrailless stairs leading to the basement were nicknamed the "stairs of death" after three people died after falling from them (writer Antanas Ramonas, painter Zenonas Šteinys and poet Elena Mezginaitė). In the summer of 2006, the whole of Lithuania was shocked by the death of the writer Gintaras Beresnevičius: he was arrested in this cafe. Shortly after this tragic event, the cafe closed. Writers' Union home spaces have always been popular with filmmakers. Their exquisite staircase was filmed in the BBC series War and Peace. At the end of the show, the audience will visit the cafe "Čitalka", which is popular among young people. On the stage of the cafe, next to the red grand piano, jazz musicians used to perform: a quartet led by Viacheslav Genelin, played by Grigorijus Talas, Remigijus Pilypaitis and Aleksandras Melnikas. The journey through Soviet-era Vilnius cafes continues in the LRT PLUS show "Stop lane". Show STOP JUSTA - Sundays, 11:00 on LRT PLUS!
