On the occasion of the bicentenary of the birth of Rosa Bonheur in Bordeaux, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in her hometown and the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, are organizing a major retrospective of her work. The Château de Rosa Bonheur in Thomery (Seine-et-Marne), where the artist lived for almost half a century, as well as the Musée départemental des peintres de Barbizon are the exceptional partners of the exhibition. The bicentenary of the birth of Rosa Bonheur is included in the calendar of commemorations of France Mémoire 2022. This is the first retrospective devoted to the artist since the one presented in 1997 in Bordeaux, Barbizon and New York. Dates Museum Gallery and North Wing of the Museum of Fine Arts, May 18-September 18, 2022. Musée d'Orsay, October 18, 2022-January 15, 2023. Curator Sophie Barthélémy, Director, Chief Curator of the Museum of Fine Arts of Bordeaux Sandra Buratti-Hasan, Deputy Director, Curator of the 19th-20th Century Collections Leïla Jarbouai, Chief Curator of Graphic Arts and Paintings at the Musée d'Orsay. with the collaboration of Katherine Brault, President of the Château de Rosa Bonheur, assisted by Michel Pons. Scenography Isabelle Fourcade, architect scenographer Stéphanie Vaillat, graphic designer Serge Damon, lighting designer Graphic design of communication: Oficina Alt-Border. This exhibition is recognized as being of national interest by the Ministry of Culture/Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. As such, it benefits from exceptional financial support from the State.
