In the 3rd century AD, a battle between Romans and Germanic tribes took place at Harzhorn in what is now the Northeim district. Unlike the Battle of Varus, for example, there is no written record of this event. With the help of volunteer detectorists, archaeologists were able to recover a large number of finds and reconstruct the events.
